Child Support

In cases where custody is determined, the court will also make an order of child support. Child support is based upon the income of the parties. Utah has established guideline amounts for child support.

The parent without physical custody of a child, will be required to pay child support to the other parent. Adjustments for child support are made when joint physical custody is ordered.

The court can modify the amount of child support award based upon a change in circumstances that is not temporary in nature. Please refer to Modified Decrees.

In addition to child support, a parent may be required to pay one-half of work related day care expenses, medical and dental expenses and a parent may be required to provide medical or dental insurance.

If you would like to know the amount of support you might receive or have to pay, please contact one of our family law attorneys for assistance.
